Kelvin K was born in England and raised in the United States. He now lives in Brighton, England. His DJ career started with humble beginnings in the early 90's. In 1992, Kelvin had the opportunity to cultivate his skills spinning with some of San Francisco biggest DJ's of the time at some of the cities' historic events. Shortly thereafter, Kelvin moved to Philadelphia and had the good fortune to become friends with DJ's Josh Wink and King Britt - an exposure that led him to be inspired creatively and continue to hone his skills as a top notch DJ. Kelvin then set his sights for the East Coast where he was to open the only dance music specialty shop for the entire southern region, Grass Roots Records. It was this move that credited him and his partner with being responsible for the rise of house music in the Southeast portion of the US.
For
five years he ran testpress.com. One of the first dance music oriented
information resources on the net, testpress.com developed an international
reputation under his direction. It soon was averaging close to one hundred
thousand hits per month.
Kelvin was the music buyer for the retail portion of the web site and
the senior music editor, his reviews and charts showing up in publications
around the globe.
Although he has moved on to other projects, he still acts as moderator
for the testpress-announce email group, a valuable place on the Internet
to find current information pertaining to the dance music industry.
Over ten years of involvement in the industry as a business owner, music
buyer, music reviewer, DJ and networking entrepreneur have resulted
in his developing a vast array of contacts and skills related to the
promotion of quality dance music. Kelvin's ability to combine his art
of business with creative skills and dedication to his passion has resulted
in his being interviewed by numerous publications and given him the
opportunity to play key venues.
It
is this knowledge and work ethic that has placed Kelvin as a regular
producer and UK promotions rep for San Francisco's infamous Moulton
Studios, known worldwide for its heavy involvement in the careers of
some of the hottest producers in House music. His sound relationships
with key industry figures, his business management skills, and his creativity
make him the ideal fit for the rapidly rising Moulton Studios team.
With his involvement, Moulton Studios has added another person of high
quality to a team already full of talent.
Kelvin's collaboration with Moulton star Jay-J, titled "One Day"
has come in at #13 in the DJ mag hype chart and has garnered strong
reviews. He has also released on Tango Recordings, Spacekat Recordings
and ClubStar. He has upcoming projects to be released on Greenhouse
and Nordic Trax. As one of House Music's steady risers, he comes with
the skill and knowledge to keep dancefloors moving around the globe.
